Abstract
Short peptide self-assembled nanostructures are fascinating due to their intriguing properties and prolific applications. Short peptide-based supramolecular hydrogels are composed of an entangled network of self-assembled nanofibers. The intrinsic biocompatibility and extracellular matrix (ECM) mimicking attributes of these hydrogels allow their utilization in biomedical applications. Herein, we divide short peptide hydrogel into different categories and vividly discuss their applications regarding various biomedical aspects. We shed light on different applications of short peptide hydrogels including cell scaffolding, tissue engineering, wound healing, and drug delivery. We believe that this chapter will encourage the design of de novo short peptides and investigate their biomedical applications.
