Abstract

A semi-inclusive analysis of multiparticle production in h-h collision at {Mathematical expression}= 16.7 Gev is performed using a model-independent approach based on universal multifractals. The multiplicities range from N ch=6 to N ch=20. The data have been collected at the Fermilab Tevatron. The multiple scaling of probability distributions is investigated first. Then universal multifractal forms for the codimension function c(γ) and the moment's scaling function K(q), are derived and the Lévy index α, the degree of multifractality, is experimentally determined together with the codimension of the mean field C 1. The data display Log-Lévy-type statistics with bounded singularities, the peculiarities of a conditionally soft/hard multifractal process. The degree of multifractality increases with increasing multiplicity, but our data are not inconsistent with α remaining below unity.
