title = "Secularism",
abstract = "This chapter explores secularism as a link between two modern forms of prejudice: judeophobia and islamophobia. Secularism is not a neutral ideology because its historical beginnings in the European Enlightenment molded its formulation of “religion.” As a post-Christian ideology, secularism did not adopt an impartial view of Judaism or Islam. Instead, secularism, and particularly secular law, stigmatizes both Jews and Muslims by stereotyping them as threats within the public sphere and violent threats to the secular state. This chapter illustrates how secularism propagates judeophobia and islamophobia.",
