Abstract

A method for sealing glass and plastic tubes filled with hazardous materials is presented. The method utilizes our "microwave drill" technology modified to seal glass tubes. The new "microwave sealer" is a low-cost compact apparatus, which enables an automatic sealing operation. This instrumentation might be applicable for small laboratories, as well as for large industrial production lines. The paper presents the principles of the method and its initial feasibility-study results. The practical applicability of this microwave tube-sealer scheme is discussed.
