Abstract

Autonomous thyroid tissue commonly appears within the thyroid gland in the cervical region. Ectopic thyroid tissue has been described in the presence of a normal cervical thyroid. The authors describe a patient with thyrotoxicosis in whom an ectopic, retrosternal, autonomous adenoma and a normally appearing, partially suppressed cervical thyroid gland were both demonstrated.
