Abstract
Using a laser-Doppler velocimeter, detailed measurements were performed in water to obtain information on the distributions of transverse mean velocity and RMS velocity for flow througha sixteen-rod bundle with the mixing blades on grid spacer(mixing promoter) at a Reynolds number of 14200. The rods were arranged in a square array with a pitch to diameter ratio of 1.375 and a wall-distance to diameter ratio of 0.77. The core flow downstream in the central subchannel with the promoter appears to be cylindrial vortex, but in the rod gap regions inversion of lateral velocity is encountered. The mixing rate found experimentally varies largely with the angle of mixing blade on the grid spacer.
