Abstract

The two basic characteristics of wavy flow, the rolling wave celerity and average wavy film thickness in laminar and turbulent wavy film are predicted by simple analytical expressions. In the laminar region the dimensionless wave celerity is predicted to be constant, 3.78, or mildly dependent on the film Reynolds number, proportional to Re- 1 15. In the turbulent region the wave celerity decreases as Re- 1 4. These results compare reasonably well with experimental data corresponding to rolling waves in a fully developed wavy flow region.
