Abstract

Role of fraction in compaction and segregation of granular materials was discussed. Phase diagram for segregation versus friction coefficient of the materials was also developed. Edwards' thermodynamic hypothesis with a simple mechanical model and mean-field based geometrical calculations was used. The results show that the binary mixtures of grains which differ in fractional properties also segregate at high compactivities.
