N2 - A novel fused-ring polynitro compound (5) and a cyclic compound featuring gem-dinitromethylene and nitroso groups (7) were synthesized from 1,1-diamino-2,2-dinitroethylene (FOX-7). Both compounds exhibit high density, decent thermal stability, high detonation performances, and low mechanical sensitivities. This newly developed derivatization strategy enriches the ever-expanding reactive chemistry of FOX-7.
