Abstract
The motion of a simple oscillator to a sinusoidal ground excitation in which relative slip takes place with Coulomb friction is investigated. The simple model is proposed, as a first approximation, to represent the motion of imperfectly imbedded buried pipes in soil, where the pipe is assumed to be infinitely rigid compared to the stiffness of the surrounding soil.
