N2 - In this work, a brief review of the modern state of investigations in the field of linear and nonlinear electrodynamics is given for resonant nano-and microstructured composite media (metamaterials), whose effective permittivities and permeabilities can take negative values. Some promising lines of investigations and possible applications are discussed.
