Abstract

The quelques and plusieurs French quantifiers are re-visited, starting from the analyzing of the subsets inner organization. Two hypotheses underlie the demonstration. The quantifying process is ordered over two phases - a hard, lexical, kernel, and an inferential derivation. The second hypothesis supposes that the polarized contrast between quelques and plusieurs pertains to a differentiated take-over of the denoted subset: a massifying one (quelques) and a discretizing one (plusieurs).
