Abstract

Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (MCTD) is an entity characterized by the presence of concomitant manifestations of several 'collagen vascular diseases'. Its clinical presentations do not usually include anemia. We wish to describe herein a patient with MCTD who illustrates two relatively unique features. Severe hemolytic anemia as a presenting sign of MCTD with an immediate and dramatic response to intravenous immunoglobulins, following unresponsiveness to steroid therapy.
