Abstract
PVP-idodine enemas were administered immdiately before operation in dogs. Results of colonic preparation were compared to those obtained with water and soap enemas at the same schedule, and with sodium phosphate enemas and oral antibiotics during three days. A standard segmental left colectomy was performed in all the dogs and bacteriologic studies from the luminal content and from the wall of the colon were made. The group prepared with PVP-idoine enemas showed the best results.
