Abstract

The elderly population are affected by various rheumatic and inflammatory-based or related diseases, some of which appear predominantly but not exclusively in the aged population and others are unique to geriatric patients. Included in this group of diseases are osteoarthritis (primary and erosive), crystal induced arthropathies, diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH), rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis as well as neuropathic arthropathy. Radiography plays a significant role in diagnosis, treatment management and follow up of affected patients. In the current chapter, a detailed description of the radiographic characteristics of each disease and its most frequently affected axial or peripheral joints will be presented along with representative figures, demonstrating major typical findings for each of the diseases.
