Abstract

A quantum size effect which is apparent in the lineshape of the Fano resonance is presented. The absorption spectra of three GaAs samples in high magnetic field is studied. A simple calculation showed that the energy level spacing in the quasi-continuum becomes comparable to the typical Fano coupling strength for quantum wells as wide as 1 μm. In this case, the lineshape is no longer dominated by the coupling to the continuum.
