abstract = "Quantization with variable resolution and channels with varying input alphabet have interesting lines of similarity as coding problems with side information at the encoder. We explore this relationship and propose coding strategies based on erasure correction coding for the discrete case and band-limited interpolation for the continuous case. The varying input alphabet setup is shown to be useful for coding for deterministic broadcast channels.",
