To determine whether punctal occlusion is useful in improving the dry- eye condition of patients with familial dysautonomia, we performed a retrospective chart review of 18 patients who had undergone punctal occlusion. All reported improvement in their dry-eye symptoms after an average follow-up of 3 years. We conclude that occlusion of 2 or 4 of the puncta is useful in treating dry eye and its sequelae in patients with familial dysautonomia.
