Abstract

This article examines the state of the public transit sector in Israel with respect to key long-term trends in ridership and modal split and the sector's major structural and operational problems. Using the case of public transport in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, the article then argues that without fundamental reforms the transit sector would not be able to meet future challenges.
