Abstract
PURPOSE/METHODS: A proximity sensor switch installed on a slit lamp can detect the approach of the examiner and activate the electronic switch. RESULTS/CONCLUSIONS: A proximity sensor switch is able to reduce or turn off the illumination of the slit lamp while the examiner is not looking through the oculars. The proximity sensor switch can also be used in the operating room to activate switches without touch, thus eliminating the need to sterilize them.
