Abstract

The effect of mergers in the force chain model and the stress profile in static granular materials were discussed. It was shown that granular materials did not generally behaved in an elastic like manner except under some specific conditions. The deviation from elasticity was observed in the splitting-only version of the force chain model. The nonelastic behavior resulting from the nonlinearity of the full force chain model was also elaborated.
