It has been shown \[1-3\]h, owever, that the use of the positivity condition of the density matrix yields reasonably well-bounded values for the matrix elements. It is worthwhile to note that these bounds are model independent. In this paper we present a determination of the bounds of the matrix elements in a fashion, which fully exploits the positive sernidefinite character of the matrix, for various s and t values. Since the positivity condition applies also separately to the real part of the density * Presently on leave of absence at DESY, Hamburg. ** Supported by the Israel Academy of Science and Humanities, the Israel Commission for Basic Research.

N2 - The production of ρ{variant}0 and f mesons in πN→π+π-N reactions in the momentum range 4 to 17 GeV/c is investigated in a model-independent way by imposing in full the positivity of the density matrix. The results so obtained are used in order to determine the effective Regge trajectories for unnatural and natural parity exchanges and are compared to results obtained in different analyses.
