Abstract

A full three-dimensional pre-stack depth migration method that operate on the entire shot gather is presented. The migration can be performed in areas with lateral as well as horizontal velocity variations. The method is suitable for a true 3-D shooting where receivers are spread in both horizontal directions. Irregularities in shooting geometry are handled with no extra cost and do not require any special treatment. The imaging is based on the solution of the three dimensional eikonal equation. Efficient computational algorithm is also presented. The algorithm was successfully tested on existing hardware and the feasibility of using the method for real size problem is demonstrated.
