Abstract

Summary— The effectiveness of pre‐operative disinfection of the bladder by irrigation with povidone‐iodine was assessed in 40 patients with indwelling catheters who underwent transvesical prostatectomy. The results were encouraging: in 75% of the cases sterilisation of the urine was achieved and in 1 2.5% counts were <105organisms/ml.
