Abstract

The prediction and prevention of chemical reaction hazards by process simulation was discussed. A realistic safety-related simulation exercise was conducted using the batch reactor model and simulation technique. An exothermic liquid-phase reaction was carried out in a batch reactor for the purpose. Results showed that increasing the heat transfer area of the cooling system was helpful in increasing the resilience of the reactor.
