Abstract

This review discusses the current knowledge on the mediators participating in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease, i.e. prostanoids, leukotrienes, platelet activating factor, interleukin-1, neuropeptides and oxygen-free radicals, and discusses the cellular sources responsible for the generation of these inflammatory mediators.
