Abstract

Polymer therapeutics is considered the first generation of “nanomedicines.” This family of compounds and drug-delivery systems are based on water-soluble polymers that can either be bioactive on their own or an inert functional part of a multifunctional complex, which includes polymer-protein conjugates, polymer-drug conjugates, polymeric micelles, polymeric drugs, and nonviral polyplexes for gene delivery.
