Abstract
We report new data on the formation and decay of the infrared absorbing, trapped electron (ei-) formed during the picosecond laser photoionization of TMPD in ethanol, propanol, butanol, and decanol at 295 K. The transient absorption at 1300 nm, formed ≤3 ps, appears to decay on a time scale comparable to the picosecond formation time of the visible absorbing, solvated electron (ex) in each alcohol. There is no discernible delay between the loss of e, and the initial appearance of ex. The results are discussed in the context of current models of electron solvation.
