Abstract
During illumination of a mercury electrode, a photocurrent with quantum yields between 10-7 and 10-4 electrons per photon was detected. The dependence of the photocurrent on electrode potential E and photon energy can be described as product of an exponential function of E and power function of photon energy. The existence of long-lived ionized surface status is explained by formation of an effective barrier arising from collective effects.
