Abstract

Accidental hypothermia, manifested by a fall in temperature to 24°, deep coma, disturbances of the cardiac rhythm, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, signs of intravascular clotting, hyperglycemia and uremia, is described in a schizophrenic patient. With adequate treatment all pathological signs disappeared and the patient made a full recovery. Hypothermia can occur in subtropical countries, especially in elderly people, drunkards and psychotics.
