Abstract

A study is carried out to demonstrate that particles accelerating near the horizon of a spinning supermassive black hole suffer severe energy losses through curvature emission. Curvature losses are shown to limit the maximum energy attainable to values well below that imposed by the voltage drop, and prevent vacuum breakdown.
