Abstract

1. 1. Antibodies raised to hemocyanin were used in the identification of in vitro synthesized hemocyanin among the products of cell-free translation of poly (A)+ mRNA from whole Leiurus quinquestriatus scorpions. 2. 2. Partial purification of hemocyanin mRNA was carried out by sucrose gradient fractionation. 3. 3. Evidence is presented that the message coding for hemocyanin is about 2000 nucleotides long. This value is consistent with the size of a constituent polypeptide chain of scorpion hemocyanin, about 75,000 daltons.
