Abstract
Newly hatched chicks were dark reared continuously for maturity. The average pupillary size in these chicks was 2.6 mm in comparison to 4.5 mm in the normal controls. There was no change immediately after exposure to light and only a slight recovery several weeks later. Histology showed no morphological change in the iris, ciliary body or lens, thus suggesting that the constriction found is functional and centrally controlled.
