Abstract

Twenty-one GH deficient patients (15 M, 6 F) mean age 28.2±7.6 yr underwent echocardiography (ACUSON 128H) measuring 20 parameters. All measurements were within normal limits. Seven patients (3 IGHD, 4 MPHD) were studied again after 1 yr hGH retreatment (Biotropin BTG-Israel 0.01-0.03 U/kg/d). hGH increased 16 functions. Muscle mass (ASE) increased from 95.1±24 to 109±29.9 g (p<0.02). Changes of more than 10% over basal were observed in Diastolic Volume (+10.3±16%) Stroke volume (+13.4±21%) Heart rate (+13.7±17%), cardiac output (+31.5±42% and fractional thickening of left ventricular wall (+20.9±47.5%). The clinical relevance of the above findings require repeated evaluations during long-term hGH treatment in adults.
