Abstract

Most group A streptococci harvested from the early logarithmic phase of growth possess cell-bound hemolysin (CBH), (CBH is the cell-bound form of streptolysin S), which is capable of hemolyzing red blood cells and causing cyto-pathic changes in mouse peritoneal leukocytes (leukotoxicity).
