Abstract

The combination of oral ampicillin (or amoxycillin) together with i.m. streptomycin is an effective, safe and economical method of managing penicillin-sensitive streptococcal endocarditis. Hospitalization can be curtailed even further and can thus compete with the i.m. 2-wk regimen, which continues to be controversial.
