Abstract
Explicit expressions for the leading order term in the mean time to lose lock of a second-order coherent pseudonoise code tracking delay lock loop are derived. These are used to optimize the loop performance in direct-sequence spread-spectrum systems. The proposed optimization is then applied to a tracking loop used in the global positioning system (GPS).
