Abstract

Two images to be subtracted are modulated by a random speckel pattern before being recorded on a common photographic record, while a slight lateral displacement is introduced between the records. The common record is coherently illuminated and spatially filtered so that only the difference information is displayed. An improvement of this technique is based on alternate multiple recordings of the input images. An optimal distribution for the multiple exposure scheme is derived and its effect on the resolution and the dynamic range of the subtracted image is analysed.
