Abstract

The normal reflectance of 13 Csx(CsCl)1-x alloys was obtained. The measurements were made 25°C above the liquidus curve over a 0.65 to 5.50 eV range. A large drop in reflectance was observed over a small range of concentration: from a clearly metallic regime for x ≥ 0.98 to an apparent insulating state for x ≤ 0.85. The low reflectance is the result of absorption, not the transparency of the pure salt. The M-NM transition is sharp and well marked in the optical data. However, measurements of dc conductivity reported for similar alloys Kx(KBr)1-x vary only from 4 to 17 × 103 ohm-1 cm-1 on the 0.80 ≤ × ≤ 1.00 range.
