Abstract

With evolving microwiggler technology, state-of-the-art, moderate-enegy (6-14-MeV) tandem electrostatic accelerators can be used for the development of highly coherent tunable radiation sources in the entire IR region. The authors present the general design considerations and the predicted operating characteristics of such devices, referring to the design of a 10-1000-μm FEL based on the parameters of a 5-6-MeV high-current tandem accelerator. Various parameter values are given for three design examples.
