N2 - An explicit expression for the pressure function in the lubricating film of an arbitrary narrow bearing configuration is derived using matched asymptotics and boundary layers to satisfy inlet and outlet pressure conditions. A simple analytical expression for the load-carrying capacity in narrow slider bearings is presented and agreement with accurate numerical results is discussed. A mathematical evidence is provided to show that load-carrying capacity in slider bearings is almost independent of the actual shape of the lubricating film.
