Abstract
This paper outlines three models of return migration and provides examples of connections between them. Return migration might be prompted by a declining need for insurance, by a reinstatement of informational symmetry and by the higher purchasing power of savings (generated from work abroad) at home. Just as the set of reasons underlying migration is richer than a response to a positive inter-country wage differential, the reasons for return migration go beyond a response to a negative wage differential. The reasons outlined suggest several novel implications for research and policy.
