Abstract

We study the electrodynamics of rotating metamaterials and periodic structures, as observed in their rest frame of reference. The analysis is based on a rigorous Greens function theory of rotating medium. Our study reconstructs the celebrated Sagnac effect, and further reveals novel effects associated with the rotation footprint on interference and diffraction effects taking place in metamaterial structures. The effect of rotation on the polarizability of small particles is also discussed.
