Abstract

A concentrated pressure loading applied to the surface of a cylindrical cavity within an elastic medium yields stress and displacement fields which are expressed by means of infinite integral representations. The resulting singularities in the stress and displacement components in the vicinity of the applied load are derived from these integrals and their evaluation leads to simple analytic expressions. The logarithmic and inverse power singularities obtained as well as jumps in the displacements are observed to coincide with those of the Flamant problem, as a limiting case.
