Abstract

Common isopleth mapping based on data for arbitrary areal units and linear interpolation procedures presents many cartographic problems which can be solved or circumvented by the use of continuous scanning isodensitometry. Optionally an optical or digital technique may be employed to create isopleths of uniform reliability from data recorded by coordinate position or as a photographic image.
