Abstract
In this paper, we show that the fuzzy logic system presented by Wang and Mendel (1992) is a linear expansion of the fuzzy rule base if fuzzy events are represented by triangular basis functions. Therefore, based on linear regression theory, we propose a direct approach for constructing a fuzzy logic system from input-output data. The effectiveness of this approach is demonstrated by simulations.
