Abstract

Torsion of the omentum is an uncommon condition. 5 cases of omental torsion are reported. All were emergency cases, presenting symptoms similar to acute appendicitis. Necrotic omental mass has been removed in all cases as well as the appendix in 4 of them. The diagnosis of omental torsion should be suspected in acute abdominal cases of uncertain origin especially where former abdominal operations were done. The point of careful inspection of the abdominal cavity for an inflammatory focus is stressed.
