Abstract
A review of two exhibitions of work by Leora Laor, at the Dvir Gallery in Tel Aviv, Israel, and at Daiter Contemporary, Chicago, both held in September and October 2005. Israeli photographer Laor took the photographs for her series Image of Light during twilight or at night, using her digital video camera to capture still images and to film short clips from which she isolates individual frames. As a result, the images depict figures occupying an urban landscape from which they are alienated, and the backgrounds appear chaotic, underscoring the frail human condition and arousing primal feelings of anxiety and fear of death.
