Abstract
Deoxyribonucleic acid ribonucleic acid (DNA RNA) hybridization technique was used to investigate nucleic acid homologies among C. albicans, S. albicans and the Leucosporidium species (L. nivalis, L. capsuligenum, L. frigidum, L. gelidum, L. antarcticum). The nucleic acid homology between C. albicans, S. albicans and the Leucosporidium species was very low (ranging from about 7-11% for C. albicans and 8-12.5% for S. albicans), indicating the unrelatedness of C. albicans to the basidiomycetous yeast genus Leucosporidium.
