Abstract

The deoxyribonucleic acid-ribonucleic acid (DNA-RNA) hybridization technique was used to study the nucleic acid homologies between C. albicans and the ascomycetous yeasts of the genus Kluyveromyces. The DNA-RNA homology values between C. albicans and K. africanus, K. fragilis, K. lactis, K. marxianus and K. polysporus were 20.2%, 27.3%, 24.0%, 23.5% and 21.0% respectively. These data are evaluated in regard to the relatedness of C. albicans to the Ascomycetes.
